What conditions does Apoquel treat?

Apoquel primarily treats allergic skin conditions in dogs, including atopic dermatitis and flea-allergic dermatitis. It also treats other conditions that cause itching and inflammation, such as food allergies and contact dermatitis.

How Does Apoquel work?

Apoquel works by blocking certain inflammatory pathways in the body. It specifically targets the cytokines IL-31 and IL-4, which are involved in the immune response that leads to itching and inflammation.

How Long Does it Take Apoquel to Work?

Apoquel starts working within 4 hours of taking it, and it usually takes 24 hours to control your dog's allergic itch completely. However, some dogs may see relief of itching even sooner. The effects of Apoquel typically last for about 24 hours, so it needs to be given once daily for maintenance therapy.

How is Apoquel Administered?

Apoquel is available in tablet form and is administered orally. The dosage and frequency of administration will depend on the size of the dog and the severity of the condition being treated.

Can Apoquel be used with other medications?

Apoquel can be used in combination with other medications, but it is important to talk to your veterinarian before giving your dog any other medications.

Apoquel Side Effects

There is always a possibility of side effects when treating your pet with prescription medications. These are outlined in detail in the product's data sheet and will be discussed with you by your vet at the time of prescription.

Side effects with Apoquel are uncommon, but you may notice:

  • - Increase or decrease in appetite
  • - Vomiting
  • - Diarrhoea

More commonly, you may also notice some skin irritation or bumps on your pet’s skin when using Apoquel. These skin issues usually go away on their own without veterinary intervention.

If you have any worries or questions about your pet before or during their treatment, be sure to talk to your veterinarian, who will be able to provide advice on managing any side effects of Apoquel. If your dog experiences any side effects from Apoquel, you should contact your veterinarian immediately. They may recommend adjusting the dosage or switching to a different medication.

Can I Get Apopquel without a Vet Prescription in the UK?

No, Apoquel is a prescription medication and can only be purchased using your vet's valid, in-date prescription. You can learn more about ordering a prescription medicine for your pet from Pet Drugs Online on our prescription information page. For your pet's safety, always be wary of any organisation offering to sell Apoquel or any other prescription-only veterinary medicines without a prescription.

Please note, while we have an onsite vet to oversee the sales of prescription medicines, we do not offer veterinary consultations or advice.
